Step 1: Select Your Color
Defines the overall tone and visual impact of your floor. Each color is formulated to highlight the wood’s natural grain and ensure long-term durability and UV stability.
Select from hand-picked Carlisle hues curated by national designers., each crafted to work beautifully across your selections of lengths, widths, cuts, finishes, and construction styles.
When no existing hue will do, we create a color entirely for you. This is an intricate process, as every wood type, cut, and finish can transform the final tone.
Combining darker grey and brown yields a color reminiscent of vintage floors with a smoked, story-telling vibe. The shade adapts easily to modern spaces craving a bit of aged drama, and fits rustically layered interiors looking for a touch of authenticity.
This floor blends both grey and beige neutrality with slightly stronger brown accents, producing a color that’s hard to categorize yet easy to live with. Its elusive charm means tones will change throughout the day, reflecting the sun’s journey.
A light wash of gray and brown pigments creates subtle variations that change with the grain and viewing angle. Some boards reflect more grey, others more pale brown, offering a dynamic sense of movement inspired by mountain landscapes.
Hints of black are woven into a true brown foundation, adding depth and quiet strength. The color range is subdued compared to lighter stains, yet never monotonous; Pine Cone is endlessly adaptable.
Very close in tone to Pine Cone but with a quiet red bent, Leather Chair is a floor that carries the weight and history found in older homes. It’s timeless and solid, fitting equally in bright kitchens or deeply colored living rooms.
Featuring only 10% pigment in the base, this finish allows the natural color tones and organic character of the wood to shine while softening the overall appearance. The slight veil mimics classic wide-plank floors that have been lovingly maintained with Lye Soap, showcasing a gentle warmth ideal for period-inspired and serene settings.
The true grey water-based stain is rolled and brushed into the grain for comprehensive, even coverage. Cashmere pairs beautifully with blue cabinet tones and crisp white décor, heightening every accent in the room.
Inspired by fine particles of silt and clay, this finish gathers together the rich tones of the earth in a classic medium-brown shade. On alternate species like Hickory, the brown overlay gently softens natural variation, creating a flawless backdrop for transitional themes.
A slightly lighter brown settles in the open grain, highlighting every subtle twist and turn of wood pattern. The subtle contrast is ideal for pairing with stonework, fireplaces, and light cabinetry, bridging rustic charm and contemporary needs.
Over the Moon is crafted for serene interiors, blending gentle taupe and muted brown undertones. The finish lightly washes over the wood, allowing subtle variation in grain and knots to create a sense of organic movement while maintaining calm, cohesive warmth throughout the floor.
Grey pigment is carefully buffed into the surface and hand-removed until only the open grain retains color, achieving a neutral blend of cool and warm tones. The effect is reminiscent of wood exposed to the elements then gently sanded to reveal inner beauty, striking the perfect balance for spaces seeking neither excess coolness nor heaviness, a tranquil, lived-in finish.
Yellow, blacks, and browns are expertly combined to create a barely-there light grey tone. This subtle color works beautifully as a backdrop for crisp white cabinetry, offering delicate contrast without sacrificing overall softness.
The finish is crafted from a slightly heavier white base, enriched with a touch of yellow and a hint of brown, forming a creamy glaze. Hand-buffed and carefully removed, the pigment settles mostly within the open grain, accentuating natural patterns without overpowering them.
This finish mirrors the tones found in white oak—softening the highs and lows of its natural spectrum for a more seamless and balanced look. Knots and grain movement add organic character, creating a foundation that feels as authentic as a forest path underfoot.
Eden’s light golden-brown hue is evocative of classic oiled floors, its pigment subtle enough to lend the appearance of gentle aging and a hint of patina. This universally appealing tone adapts elegantly to any style or setting, enduring as a perfect backdrop to life’s ongoing changes.
This finish involves only the smallest amount of pigment, preserving the natural color and letting the organic qualities of the boards take precedence. Ideal for those who value the story wood can tell over decades, the look echoes the earliest American floors—character deepening year after year, a true reflection of heritage and craft.
Similar in undertone to Weekend Cottage but made distinct by its evenly spread pigment, Beach Pathway offers a softer contrast and a more seamless visual. The refined application permits long stretches of uninterrupted grain and minimal knots, creating a palette where serenity and continuity rule.
By mixing touches of brown and gray, Argil’s unique pastel tone makes the wood appear gently aged without ever looking worn or tired. The finish tempers variation from plank to plank, yielding an approachable, enigmatic look that resists easy categorization.
Boasting nearly double the white pigment found in softer washes, this foundational color was Carlisle’s first curated classic—its longevity proof of universal appeal. Despite the enhanced brightness, the finish allows distinct wood tones to express themselves, highlighting unique variation from board to board.
This is Carlisle’s whitest color, achieved by layering three different applications of white pigment, each rendered in its own unique method. The cumulative effect yields a rich, airy surface where the wood tone barely peeks through, offering instant brightness and a heightened sense of spaciousness.
Carlisle’s most popular wood, White Oak is prized for its balanced elegance, cocoa-toned hue, and stain versatility. Its tight grain enables a range of styles — from the softer Plainsawn look to the refined lines of Rift & Quartered cuts. *All samples will be provided on white ok, unless a fully custom color floor is being created.
Walnut’s deep brown tone and complex grain offer warmth and quiet luxury. Sourced from mature Midwest timbers, it’s softer underfoot, rare, and consistently beautiful — a hallmark of exclusivity.
Hickory is one of the hardest woods, known for bold heart/sap contrast and cocoa tones. With high heart content and careful milling, it delivers natural warmth and suits both rustic and modern interiors with rugged yet intentional style.
Cherry’s rich heritage and dignified red tones deepen over time, bringing elegance to interiors. Sourced from Pennsylvania, its smooth texture and patina make each floor more beautiful year after year.
Birch combines subtle grain with striking color contrast — reddish heartwood and creamy sapwood. Its artisanal, tactile look suits contemporary designs where energy and warmth are desired without overwhelming the space.
Tapped for maple syrup, Brown Maple develops deep heartwood tones and dramatic color variation within the same tree as White Maple. The result is a floor full of natural contrast and organic character—ideal for those who embrace bold grain patterns and one-of-a-kind beauty.
Dense and durable with flowing grain and a smooth, refined appearance, White Maple offers a crisp, contemporary foundation for both traditional and modern interiors. Its subtle movement and clean palette make it a sought-after choice for minimalist or Scandinavian-inspired spaces.
The original wide plank floor, Eastern White Pine ages into classic amber “Pumpkin Pine.” Its soft character, long planks, and vertical grain evoke heritage and welcome the marks of daily life as part of its story.
Heart Pine is the Southern counterpart to Eastern White Pine — harder, with dense rings and golden-red hues. Made from true Longleaf Pine, it blends antique charm with lasting durability for a modern home.
Radiating elegance and traditional beauty, Rift & Quartersawn White Oak is cut at a 90-degree angle from the log’s growth rings. This cut creates a uniform vertical pattern of tight, straight parallel lines running the length of the plank.
Known as “blonde Oak,” Ash is durable and clean-grained with golden undertones and brown streaks. It provides a resilient, contemporary feel and subtle movement suited to modern interiors

Smooth planks are meticulously sanded to an even surface, highlighting the natural clarity of the wood’s grain for a clean, refined look that feels timeless underfoot.
Brushed techniques remove softer wood grains, leaving the denser grains elevated for an uneven, contoured surface that authentically mirrors the look of aged floors.
Hand-scraped edges are created with a small block plane, rounding each plank's edge much like craftsmen did centuries ago, delivering smooth transitions and an authentic Colonial flooring aesthetic.
Hit or Miss processes reproduce saw swirl markings and kerfs that were common in boards cut by early mills, and can be customized to achieve either subtle or pronounced rustic effects.
Timeworn techniques use proprietary methods to gently wear down new floorboards, mimicking the unique patterns found on New England floors that have been walked on for generations.
Footworn finishes recreate the gentle undulations left behind by traditional hand tools, showcasing the distinctive marks of craftsmanship on each board seen in pre-industrial flooring.
Site finishing is the heritage craft at the heart of Carlisle, applied after installation and sanded perfectly smooth to deliver a seamless appearance without beveled edges. This method provides ultimate flexibility in color and sheen, enabling truly custom finishes or the flawless integration of new and existing floors. Often completed at the end of construction, site finishing requires less protection from site damage than pre-finished floors and is especially valuable when exact floor matching or a continuous look is essential.
Carlisle pre-finished floors combine the beauty of authentic hardwood with the ease of ready-to-install surfaces, as each board is expertly finished in the factory for maximum durability and a flawless look. With UV oil or protective polyurethane finishes cured before delivery, these planks avoid off-gassing and offer consistent color, allowing for effortless layout planning and a cohesive appearance. Pre-finished flooring minimizes downtime and disruption, providing a high-performance, convenient solution for any space.
Satin delivers a refined, understated glow that lifts grain and color without appearing glossy. This finish strikes the perfect balance between everyday practicality and elegant presence, bringing out the beauty of the wood in any setting.
Extra Matte brings a velvet touch, introducing subdued reflection for a modern, organic feel. It envelops interiors in warmth and calm, muting surface shine while deepening the natural tones of wide plank floors.
Super Matte is nearly sheenless, echoing the appearance of freshly sawn wood. It’s the ultimate expression of minimalism—raw, tactile, and authentically organic—ideal for those who desire purity and subtlety above all.
